Walter O. Sherrod

Superintendent Walter O. Sherrod is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He received his formal education in the Rocky Mount school system. He attended Nash County Community College and North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Superintendent Sherrod relocated to Topeka, Kansas over 35 plus years ago. Superintendent Sherrod is married to Evangelist Missionary Duchess Sherrod and the father of two daughters, Felicia and Danielle Sherrod.

Superintendent Sherrod began his ministerial training as an associate minister at the First Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of the late Bishop I.B. Brown. Hearing the call of God, Superinten-dent Sherrod along with his wife, the late Missionary Sonya R. Sherrod established the Temple of Deliverance COGIC on October 1, 1990 with 8 Charter Members. Starting from his humble beginnings as an usher, he has been elevated to the Office of Superinten-dent. Superintendent Sherrod has ascended to numerous other capacities on the District, Jurisdictional and National levels of the church.

Supt. Sherrod is an inspiration and a great servant in the Kansas East Jurisdiction. He is dependable, accountable and has great integrity. His impeccable service models excellence. As a dedicated father, pastor, evangelist and superintendent, his faithfulness to Kingdom building is unwavering.

Within the Kansas East Jurisdiction, Supt. Sherrod has served in numerous positions such as treasurer of the superintendents’ board, three member Bishop’s advisory board, executive board, and commissioner to the jurisdictional music department, finance committee, chief expeditor, and pastor of the Quindaro COGIC, Kansas City, Kansas and district superintendent of the Evangel District. He has served the Church Of God In Christ National Adjutancy for over 25 years and also served as the jurisdictional chief adjutant of Kansas Central under the leadership of the late, Bishop I. B Brown. In 2015, he was elevated to the position of the Overseer in the National Adjutancy of the Church of God in Christ. Other achievements include: State Usher President, Trustee, Deacon, Home and Foreign Mission President, Jurisdictional Marshall, and Chairman of Finance. Superintendent Walter O. Sherrod is a visionary leader who embodies compassion for all mankind and is willing to give of himself and his talents for the natural and Spiritual growth of humanity.

Superintendent Sherrod has been an inspiration and a great public servant to the community. His service to the City of Topeka has helped make the community a better place. Some of his involvements include: Board Member of the Neighborhood Improve-ment Association, partnership with Washburn University Mobile Health Van, The City of Topeka Cool Summer Youth Program, USD 501 Summer Lunch Program and Director of Topeka Housing Authority after School Program. His holistic approach uplifting humanity through the Bethesda Enrichment Center and the Deliverance Outreach has proven his faithfulness to Kingdom building. As a Licensed Contractor and Journeyman Carpenter, Superintendent Sherrod has renovated several churches and Christian businesses in the Topeka area.

Superintendent Sherrod has been the recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award and the City of Topeka Youth Employment Program in 2005. He has been involved with the “Toys for Tots” Christmas program for many years and has given away hundreds of toys and food baskets to needy families.
